Volunteer of the Month – February 2019
Ruth Bern
In just one year, Ruth’s abilities to get in, get it figured out and get it done in our cat rescue world has been enthralling to watch – what a thrill! Whether it’s caring for ringworm kittens, juggling a never-ending stream of needy fosters, assisting with trapping and intake, photographing for promotion, developing improved operational methods, soothing and cuddling (cats mostly but people too as needed!), and most recently as adoption counselor, we are one lucky volunteer group to have her with us. And all this on top of working full time with an active family as well.
Volunteer of the Month – Jan. 2019
Margo Fulton, our volunteer of the month for January 2019, has been a steady presence with our cat rescue group since at least October 2015. Since then, she has cared for, socialized and fostered a non-stop stream of kittens making their way from initial rescue, or being weaned from a feral mama cat, through the spay and neuter process, and into their forever homes.
Margo takes all kinds of kittens — sniffly and sneezy kittens, jumpy and scared kittens, confused and sad kittens, happy, lively, bouncy kittens. With the gentle and consistent care the kittens receive while in foster in her home, they are well-prepared for that next big step in their lives. “I am honored and thrilled to be a part of CRAN,” says Margo. “I have loved helping all of the sweet kittens I fostered over the years. It is gift to me and my family that we have had so many amazing kitties. Thanks CRAN for all that you do. It’s a pleasure helping you.”

Because of you . . . we rescued over 500 cats in 2018.
Because of you . . . Yves’ broken leg was surgically repaired so he can walk, run and jump like any other normal kitty (that’s him on the right , looking especially gorgeous!)

-518 cats and kittens found forever homes last year.
-Tia (on your left) and 96 others were healed of ringworm.
-372 cats and kittens were spayed or neutered.
-18 hard-to-adopt cats were given new lives as working cats.

We’ll enjoy food, drink, comradery and celebrate our successes in 2018 as we look to the future. Peruse raffle and silent auction items, gifts and prizes too. We’ll be honored by special guest, Susan Rice, Portland comedian, who will “make you laugh till it hurts.”
Because of you . . . 2019 will be an amazing year in the care of abandoned and neglected cats in our community. With new horizons and new challenges, we will continue our mission with your continued support.

Main Street Mini-Storage is constructing a building in East Springfield for CRAN’s use. The purpose of this building will be many-fold. Here are just some of the proposed uses.
- Intake and assessment
- Temporary holding area between intake and Foster Assignment
- Ringworm Treatment
- Rehabilitation and socialization between medical treatment and release to Foster/Adoption
Bottom Line is we need a name for promoting some of the donation needs of this new facility. Please use the form below to submit your ideas. If your name is chosen we have a small token of our appreciation for you. NOTE: This will not be a publicly accessible building. It is not a shelter. Cats will not meet potential adopters at this facility. The building will not have identifying signage.
Fall Holiday Fundraising Campaign – Final!
WE DID IT! We have reached our $30,000 goal and a bit more. What can we say other than thank you. It is all of our generosity that has sprung forth and helped us reach this milestone.
Starting in mid-November we launched the campaign with a direct mail and email to all friends of Cat Rescue & Adoption Network. We have come a long way in 10 weeks. Update** 1/10/2019

Volunteer of the Month – December 2018
Louanne Koch – December 2018 – Louanne, along with her husband Craig, is one of the main reasons our cat rescue group continues to survive and thrive. With a big heart and savvy business skills, she also has the ability to clone herself at least twice — Louanne has served as foster, foster coordinator, medical manager, fundraiser, community representative, board member (and president since 2016), and so much more. “Louanne’s ability to be diplomatic in emotional situations, as well as kind and caring at the same time across a variety of situations with people and their pets, is invaluable,” said Robert McIntosh, Vice Pres./Treasurer. Louanne was recognized for this award in early 2015, and the honors are justly due again, and again, and again. How grateful we are for your talents, Louanne, and your continued support of all things CRAN.
Volunteer of the Month – November 2018
Lisa Lundquist – Nov 2018
Lisa signed on as an adoption counselor volunteer in June 2017 in the gratifying work to review adoption applications and put together the best matches for a lifetime of love. As the full-time manager of a retail store, Lisa can handle just about anything. She found her true calling though in the challenging hands-on work to treat and care for kitties with ringworm. It’s quite a process. Often the kitties’ care takes 2-3 months of bathing, dipping, topical ointments and oral medications. And not every kitty is thrilled about it! Lisa also builds the adoption folders for kitties at our PetSmart partner on Chad Drive, monitors their success in the cattery, attends monthly board meetings and more. Oh, and she’s also completing an online Shelter Management course too! CRAN is a better organization with Lisa’s valuable contributions and getting better all the time.

Volunteer of the Month – October 2018
Michelle Bales – Oct 2018 – Fosters are at the very core of the success of our all-volunteer cat rescue group. And Michelle has been volunteering as a cat foster since October 2015. CRAN board president Louanne Koch says of Michelle “. . . she never says no when I need her help.” They’ve come to Michelle, and her husband Matt, at all ages, stages and needs. With her creativity and kind heart, they leave the Bales’ care ready to launch into their forever homes. What lucky kitties. And what luck for our group to have Michelle and Matt at the ready to save more lives. Thank you and congratulations on being selected as the volunteer of the month for October 2018.

Santa Pet Photos Benefit Local Cat Rescue
Bring your pet and a $10 donation for a picture with Santa Claus in this annual fundraiser to benefit local abandoned and neglected kittens and cats.
Our photographer will use your smart phone or our iPad to capture your pet, your family or a combination of both with a holiday background setting. We’ll email the images for your holiday card, social media and more.
Find Santa inside PetSmart at 2847 Chad Drive in Eugene the first three weekends in December from Noon to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
Whether you’ve been naughty or nice this year, your $10 donation provides medical care for abandoned and neglected cats coordinated by Cat Rescue & Adoption Network, an all-volunteer group in Eugene/Springfield since 2007.
